Even the priests are cool!

I’ve always felt this way about the “dad passing off daughter to husband” thing. I know it’s a tradition, and can be a poignant gesture for many daughters and daddies alike, but it totally symbolizes the transfer of property from hombre to hombre. It’s just never sat well with me; who knew I would ever be in agreement with a priest of all peeps on this one.

  1. I think it’s fine that a father walks down the aisle with his daughter and hope to walk with my daughter when she gets married, assuming she doesn’t run off to Vegas like her parents did. I view it less as a giving away and more of a letting go. She’s the most important thing in my life, and I think it’s more of a ceremonial way of letting my son-in-law know that she also needs to be the most important thing in his. The only part I have a problem with is those ceremonies where the priest asks “Who gives this woman to be married?” and the father stands to respond, “I do.” I’ve been to one wedding this year where that happened and cringed. I’d refuse to do that part.
